Threads of Life: An Installation for Morphlab
This installation was an expression of my belief: creating something that allows a space to communicate in ways that words cannot. Inspired by my motherhood journey, this installation explores the intricate yet evolving nature of life.
A depiction of a sperm entering and how a ‘life’ is created within the mother’s womb, the installation depicts the structure of a DNA. Colours like yellow, orange and red are used to create feelings of hope, love, light and peace, all those feelings that a child brings into a mother’s life.
Texture became an essential language throughout the installation. Braiding reflects the many twists and turns of the journey, acknowledging moments of both ease and challenge. The interconnection of the twins is shown through weaving while crochet expresses the tenderness and care with which a mother nurtures and shapes her children. Together, these techniques intertwine to tell a story of strength, connection and unconditional love.
Created using wool and cotton, the materials are symbolic of a mother’s feelings for her child, warmth and comfort.
